Organic sector meets the Minister

On 31 March, representatives of the organic sector in Luxembourg met with the Minister of Agriculture to have an open discourse on the development of organic agriculture.

Lëtz go organic!

Yesterday, representatives of the Luxembourg organic sector - Vereenegung fir Biolandwirtschaft Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l., Bakhaus, BIOG, BIOG-Molkerei, BIOGROS, BIO-OVO, as well as IBLA a.s.b.l., IVLB a.s.b.l., NATURATA and OIKOPOLIS-Groupe - met with Claude Haagen, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, for a constructive exchange on the development of organic farming in the context of the current market situation and the urgently needed agricultural reform.

Organic farming must become an integral part of the agricultural policy reorientation and the conversion to organic must be made more attractive in the future within the framework of the Organic Action Plan PAN Bio 2025. Currently, only 6.18 % of the national agricultural land is farmed organically. Yet organic farming brings with it all the prerequisites for sustainable and resilient agriculture, which is of crucial importance especially in times of crisis.

On a positive note, there is a trend towards more organic-certified local food being processed in communal catering, such as school canteens. The minister pointed out that in view of the current economic situation in the retail sector, it is important to join forces in the direction of regional, sustainable and resilient agriculture.
